Dr. Luis Lacalle Pou flew in a Cessna A-37B aircraft? Dragonfly ??. of the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) and last Friday, November 13th, took part in the deployment of Air Wing No. 2 (fighter aircraft) on the emergency runway in Rocha. After getting on the plane at Air Base I (Carrasco), he practiced some targets in the center of the country and after a short flight of around 35 minutes landed on the well-known emergency runway in Rocha department next to the park. Nacional de Santa Teresa, near the border with Brazil and at kilometer 306 on National Route No. 9, where he had the opportunity to share the experience of a mission with the squad.
As part of the Air Force’s annual training plan and to maintain crew and ground crew readiness at airfields with little easement and unprepared fields, these airspace control operations consist of an air patrol that includes the center line of the San Miguel Brook and Laguna Merín on the border Brazil, which allows a better understanding of the area. The section of the road that becomes an emergency lane is immediately after the entrance to Santa Teresa Fortress. It is 2,300 meters long and 45 meters wide and practically simulates one of the runways at Santa Bernardina Airport (Durazno), the headquarters of the fighter planes.
Significantly, a little over 30 years ago, in April 1990, when he was the first President, the current President’s father, Dr. Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera, also an A-37B with FAU. (Javier Bonilla)
