Shared by the Spanish Navy and the United States, Rota Base (Cdiz) has become a preferred destination for young senior officers at the United States Navy College. The annual ceremony for choosing the first destination of the new officers is called “Ship Selection Night” and selects the US Navy ship in which they would like to be deployed for the first time. As has been customary for years, the Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota, as it is called in North America, was again one of the main targets of young officers.
According to La Voz del Diario de Cdiz, the targets of the four destroyers currently based on Rota were the most available
Defendants assigned to DESRON 60: USS Ross (DDG 71), USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), USS Porter (DDG 78), and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80).
Of the 273 new officers of the 2021 promotion, the numbers 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11 and 14 decided for the ships of the US Navy in Rota at the Ship Selection Night. Japan, the base of Yokosuka, on the island of Honshu, voted number 1 in the action. (Julio Maz Sanz)
