The Embraer-manufactured C-390 Millennium multipurpose transport aircraft received the Grand Laureate Awards in the Defense category and the Defense Laureate Awards in the Defense Best New Product category today (19) from Aviation Week Magazine.

“The first C / 390 transport / tanker, the largest and most advanced aircraft ever developed by Embraer, was delivered to the Brazilian Air Force in 2019,” wrote the publication on the awards website.

“Receiving an award as traditional as the Laureate Awards is a significant differentiation from the extraordinary work of all Embraer employees, as it recognizes the merits of our engineers and the ability of our people to carry out product developments with excellence so far,” said Francisco Gomes Neto, President of Embraer.

Embraer emphasizes that its new business strategy is focused on growth with higher profitability and that the C-390 Millennium will play an important role in introducing the company into a new market segment.

“We are honored with this award, which recognizes the excellence of our programs and this aircraft designed to set new standards in the category that combines exceptional performance and the lowest life cycle cost on the market,” said Jackson Schneider, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.

According to the Brazilian manufacturer, the C-390 Millenium offers more flexibility and value for operators looking for an aircraft to perform air transport and air mobility missions, among other things.

Since its inception, the Aviation Week Laureate Awards have recognized exceptional achievements and innovative personalities who represent the values and visions of the global aerospace community and have changed the way people work and move around the world.

Aviation Week recognizes the best achievements in the four pillars of the industry: Defense, Commercial Aviation, Aerospace and Executive Aviation.

In 2009, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) commissioned Embraer to design, develop and manufacture the C-390 Millennium aircraft to replace the C-130 Hercules fleet. The delivery to the FAB began in September 2019.

The C-390, also recently acquired by the Portuguese government, is a new generation multi-mission transport jet that offers mobility, quick reconfiguration, high availability and improved flight safety on a single platform.

The aircraft can perform a variety of missions such as: B. Freight and troop transport, air cargo and skydiving, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, air fire fighting, medical evacuation and humanitarian missions.

A minimized number of inspections and an on-demand maintenance philosophy in combination with highly reliable systems and components reduce the flight time on the ground and the total cost of ownership and contribute to excellent availability and low life cycle costs.

The C-390 benefits from a fly-by-wire control system with built-in technology that reduces crew workload and increases operational safety. Additionally, the jet can refuel other aircraft in flight with removable internal fuel tanks and can also refuel in flight, allowing greater flexibility for longer missions.

An advanced self-defense system increases the aircraft’s survivability in hostile environments.

Equipped with two International Aero Engines V2500 turbofan engines, state-of-the-art avionics, a rear ramp and an advanced cargo handling system, the KC-390 can move up to 26 tons at a top speed of 470 knots (870 km / h). Use in harsh environments, including unpaved or damaged runways. The aircraft can carry troops, pallets, armored vehicles and helicopters.
