Due to the increase in the logistics and transport capacities of the Argentine army, it was decided to create the transport battalion 601 on the basis of the already existing transport company. The brand new logistics unit received its war flag from the chief of the ground forces.
The Traffic Directorate operated this sub-unit, but over the years the requirements increased and the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, General Department Agustn Humberto Cejas, ordered the creation of the battalion. During the ceremony, in which the start of activities was officially announced, General Cejas, along with the transport director, Lt. Col. Christian Hector Bonaventura, installed Lt. Col. Rodolfo Fasciszewski as the first head of the unit. Major Fabio Cammaratta as second boss.
Last year, 2020, amid the pandemic crisis, the unit in Boulogne-Sur-Mer on the outskirts of the city of Buenos Aires had an operation of more than six hundred thousand kilometers, carrying thousands of tons of cargo across the country. On a larger scale, in line with Operation General Belgrano to contain the spread of COVID-19, the goal has been to improve and upgrade medical aid facilities and materials.
This unit has numerous large vehicles with corresponding normal and specific trailers, as well as light vehicles for moving simple loads without forgetting that buses move passengers over long distances. (Luis Pieiro)
