The defense sector is a regular user of solutions of all kinds where stainless steel is the main part of a product. This is the case, for example, with devices that are used in warships, military bases or temporary facilities for catering, kitchen, laundry or nursing, to name just a few examples.
Most of the furniture and devices for these applications are made of stainless steel due to their resistance properties and compliance with hygiene and hygiene regulations. In addition, the furniture of commercial origin can be complemented with solutions of specific design to meet the needs of the armed forces. These range from systems that are installed in usable containers of all kinds and have properties like those mentioned above, hospital equipment, containers for the transport of ammunition or weapon systems or other even more specific.
These type of projects combine commercial design teams that can be immediately available with other teams that require a commitment to innovation and engineering. It is therefore interesting to have the largest available inventory for the prime contractor of a defense program and to be able to develop own solutions for the armed forces. At this point, the supplier’s experience and knowledge is critical.
When using stainless steel, depending on the application, we find differences in terms of the type of steel and the thickness as well as the type of surface. For example, stainless steel makes it possible to hide welds and joints if it is given a good finish and details such as sharp edges or burrs can be solved with a bevel or a step fold. Stainless steel is a very successful option for a project like the one described. It is easy to clean and does not require maintenance. This is the material that is used when it is necessary to comply with hygienic-hygienic regulations.
The vast majority of machinery and furniture for the healthcare, veterinary, laboratory, and hospitality industries today are made from stainless steel. Since it is a material that allows various transformations, the standard furniture produced in series can be complemented with tailor-made elements for each installation, thus covering all the needs of the user and customizing each installation is almost easy exclusive.
However, stainless steel isn’t the only rustproof material that can be used in the manufacture of such equipment, from plastics to the versatile anodized aluminum that is increasingly being used for this purpose, and good evidence of this is the shelves for cold rooms and general storage Many manufacturers use a combination of these materials for which: aluminum and plastics, most commonly polypropylene and polyethylene.
Spanish companies like Tedhinox offer all kinds of solutions for the armed forces and their main suppliers. It is a company with more than 25 years of experience in the manufacture and marketing of stainless steel furniture, equipment for the marine sector, for container solutions, for the hotel industry and the medical sector, which complies with all regulations and certifications of food use and is in the process of obtaining the certifications of the Defense sector in Spain.
