A Mexican Air Force (FAM) Learjet 45 crashed at an airport in Veracruz state while taking off on a route through the southeast of the country. Its six inmates have died. The aircraft, a Learjet registration FAM 3912 J45, took off from Mexico City International Airport (AICM) for El Lencero Domestic Airport in Veracruz to refuel and continue its flight to Villahermosa, Tabasco.
However, the plane with six occupants left the runway without being able to fly. The ship crashed into the grasslands at the end of the runway. Civil defense personnel, airport fire brigade and soldiers stationed in El Lencero tried to extinguish the flames that were consuming the structure of the military Learjet.
The Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) reported in a brief statement that the LearJet 45 aircraft, registration 3912 of the Mexican Air Force, had an accident at around 9:45 a.m. that day when it took off from the National El Lencero Airport in of the Emiliano Zapata municipality in Veracruz has unfortunately lost 6 military elements in this case.
The staff of the generals, chiefs, officers and troops of the armed institute extend our deepest condolences to the families of our brothers in arms, who unfortunately lost their lives in the service, said the secretariat. The agency added that it will provide the benefits that are legally appropriate to their beneficiaries, as well as the necessary assistance to assist them with all of their needs during this difficult time.
SEDENA also reported that the Air Accident Investigation and Assessment Commission of this Secretariat and the General Inspection and Control Officers of the Army and Air Force will prepare the appropriate reports to determine the possible causes of the incident.
This marks the first FAM aircraft fatal accident under current administration with its new commanding officer, General Gerardo Vega Rivera, appointed to the position on September 1, 2020 to reduce and manage existing air accidents and incidents Resources due to the current impossibility to acquire new fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
During the previous administration, the FAM under President Enrique Pea Nieto experienced its worst phase with 61 fatal accidents, nearly 30 military deaths (plus another 13 civilians) and 80 wounded. (Jorge Alejandro Medelln)
