GRU Airport, the concessionaire that manages the São Paulo International Airport in Guarulhos, recorded a 9% increase in passenger movement between October 2nd and 5th compared to the previous weekend.

There were more than 220,000 travelers at the airport between October 9 and 12, with domestic flights being the most popular. During this period 1,662 landings and take-offs (national and international) were registered.

These numbers correspond to an increase of 6% compared to the last days of September. Despite the surge in travel, the month of October still sees a 48% decrease over the same period in 2019.

In September, taking domestic flights only into account, the decrease was 45% compared to the same period in 2019, while the decrease in international flights reached 90%.

Despite the increase in passenger movements at the airport, these numbers mean a 55% decrease in the volume registered before the crises caused by the coronavirus.

“Creating tools to enable the aviation industry to resume is one of the most daily and challenging tasks for everyone at GRU airport. For this reason, we hold regular meetings with the companies to ensure that passengers have the best travel experience given the moment we are in, ”said Operations Director, Commander Miguel Dau.

The director stresses that the concessionaire is following the recommendations of Anvisa and taking various hygiene measures to prevent the new coronavirus for national and international travel.
