The growth of emerging threats, including low-speed commercial aircraft that can be used offensively, is now a reality. It is for this reason that the Spanish Army (ET) has proposed upgrading its classic air defense capability, which is more focused on combat aircraft and helicopters, as well as addressing threats ranging from swarms of drones to ballistic missiles.
The concept behind the bet, already perfectly outlined in the Force 2035 document that defines the resources of future combat brigades, is to have different capabilities using a combination of anti-aircraft guns – likely the Oerlikon 35 / twin barrel. 90 AHEAD-enabled GDF-007s – with very short and short rocket launchers that can hit targets within ten kilometers.
