ABIMDE (Brazilian Defense and Security Materials Industry Association) took part in the debate entitled “National Defense Policy and Strategy: The Vision of Entrepreneurship” this Friday (30th). The event was held online by IREE Defense & Security – ID & S.
The President of ABIMDE, Dr. Roberto Gallo, represented the Industrial Defense and Security Base (BIDS). Former National Public Safety Secretary Flávio Basílio and ID&S Executive President Raul Jungmann also attended. The Chairman of the ID&S Board of Directors, General Sérgio Etchegoyen, mediated the debates.
The event highlighted ABIMDE’s action to ensure a level playing field for BIDS (Defense and Security Industrial Base) companies when selling to the government. Today, national products have about 40% more taxes than products imported from other countries.
To circumvent this situation, ABIMDE has drafted a bill to apply tax immunity to defense purchases from companies in Brazil. Gallo recalls that the proposal was accepted by Congressmen Luiz Philippe de Orleans and Bragança, who tabled a supplementary bill in Congress. “We had the approval of several sectoral units and the project is about to be voted on,” explains Gallo.
